About iana.ca

An independent, map-first reference to Canada's wired internet.

Independent

iana.ca is an independent public resource. It is not affiliated with IANA, ICANN, CIRA, the CRTC, ISED, or any government. Official sources are linked and win; our own reading is marked. No carrier, regulator or exchange reviews what we publish before it goes up, and none of them speaks through it.

Built and maintained by SANE Consulting.

How it's made

From ISED, the CRTC, PeeringDB, ARIN, the Internet Society's IXP tracker, and owners, news and comparison sites, named as such. Every page lists its sources.

documented stated by the owner or an officialsource reported reported by news or a third party, not the owner inferred our reading of indirect evidence;position approximate, path likely our field knowledge no public source: published asinferred, and only with approval

Four rows, each with the map legend's symbol. Documented: a solid line and a filled dot; stated by the owner or an official source. Reported: a long-dash line and a ringed dot; reported by news or a third party, not the owner. Inferred: a faint dotted line and a ringed dot; our reading of indirect evidence, position approximate, path likely. Our field knowledge: the inferred symbol; it has no public source, so it is published as inferred, and only with approval.

How sure we are. Every entry on the map carries one of three confidence levels, the same symbols as the map legend, and the date we last checked it. Our field knowledge has no public source, so it's published as inferred.

Map and list entries about public-body networks (anything owned by a city, town, county, health, school or library body) are published only after review. A page may still mention such a network where its owner or the news has already reported it, and cites that report. When something is published, it's at a high level: never topology, equipment, addressing or security arrangements.
